FORGOTTEN: A Washington County, Ark., bailiff is under investigation after a woman spent four days forgotten in a holding cell without food, water or a toilet.

SENTENCED: A Detroit 911 operator who authorities say didn’t take seriously a boy’s calls to report that his mother had collapsed was sentenced Tuesday to serve a year of probation for willful neglect of duty. The mother was found dead three hours after the call, taken by Sharon Nichols, who was fired.

FINES BLOCKED: The federal appeals court in Washington on Tuesday blocked fines of up to $5,000 that a former USA Today reporter Toni Locy was ordered to pay each day she refuses to reveal her confidential sources for stories about the investigation of the 2001 anthrax attacks.

K-9 CASE: A Miami K-9 officer has been charged with starving his animal partner to death in November 2007.

COLLEGE CHARGE: More than eight years after a New Year’s Eve fire at Michigan State University, four people have been indicted for arson. Federal authorities said Tuesday the damage was an act of domestic terrorism with ties to the Earth Liberation Front.
