SCHAUMBURG
2008 Tour of Elk Grove to reach Schaumburg
An Elk Grove Village bike race that draws cyclists from all over the world will take a loop through Schaumburg this summer, after Schaumburg trustees on Tuesday approved a new route for the Alexian Brothers Tour of Elk Grove. The event draws riders from 22 countries and 40 states.
Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson said he told Schaumburg Mayor Al Larson last fall a longer course was needed. “We thought it would be a natural partnership.”
The nearly 100-mile road stage of a three-day competition for about 125 professional riders will start Aug. 2 at Alexian Field, where the Schaumburg Flyers play baseball. The riders will pedal north on Springinsguth Road and make several loops around a course that will include portions of Wise Road, Braintree Drive, Kingston Lane, Weathersfield Way, Warwick Lane and Cedarcrest Drive. The finish line will be in Elk Grove Village.

ELK GROVE VILLAGE
Company seeks tax incentives from village
A property-tax break would provide an incentive for Packaging Machines International Inc. to invest $2 million in the purchase and renovation of a new building and keep the company in Elk Grove Village, officials say.
The manufacturer of shrink-bundling machinery plans to buy an 18,720-square-foot building that needs substantial rehabilitation, said Zachary A. Kafitz, a lawyer for the company.
During a meeting Tuesday, the Village Board recommended the project be allowed to participate in Cook County’s property-tax incentive program, which is intended to spur economic development by reducing property tax assessments.
Without the incentive, the company likely would move, company officials said.
