400-year-old Bible is donated to BYU
PROVO, Utah — A Bible written in Old Norse nearly 400 years ago has been donated to Brigham Young University’s library by a Provo resident.
Thor Leifson, the honorary consul of Iceland emeritus, says the Bible was given to his family by a missionary who converted Leifson’s relatives to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints four generations ago.
The 6-inch tome is written in what is now the modern Icelandic language. BYU curators determined the Old Testament section of the book was printed in 1643 and the New Testament in 1644.
BYU plans an exhibition of its Bible collection in 2011.

Pastor survives ouster attempt
FT. WORTH — The senior pastor of a Baptist church embroiled in a debate over putting photos of its gay members in a church directory can keep his pulpit.
Members of Broadway Baptist Church voted 499-237 on March 9 to reject an attempt to oust Rev. Brett Younger.
A group had collected more than 160 signatures on a petition calling for Younger’s removal. They worried that Younger was embracing a theology they considered too liberal.
