Man charged in sons’ deaths
Kaushik Patel, 34, the Glendale Heights man accused of setting fire to his children, both of whom later died of their injuries, was indicted Thursday on first-degree murder charges in the death of his oldest son, Vishv. He previously was indicted on murder charges in the death of his younger son, Om. He is to be arraigned on both murder charges Monday.
Sex assault suspect denied bail
A judge Thursday denied bail for a man accused of sexually assaulting three underage brothers who lived in his South Side neighborhood. Evan Chappell, 24, of the 6800 block of South Evans Avenue in the Woodlawn neighborhood, is charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. His next court date is April 2.
Judge denies bail in South Side slaying
A judge denied bail Thursday morning for a South Side man charged in the fatal shooting at an Englewood party last weekend. Police said the suspect, Pervis Redmond, 21, of the 7600 block of South Lowe Avenue was charged overnight with first-degree murder in the death of Antwoine Gates, 33. Redmond allegedly shot him in the face and head shortly after 4 a.m., police said.
Body identified as teenager
A body found Wednesday in a garbage can on the South Side was identified today as a 15-year-old Chicago teenager, authorities said. Marullas Daniel of the 1600 block of East 55th Street was found about 1 p.m. Wednesday in the 6500 block of Ross Avenue, police said. On Thursday, medical examiners ruled that Daniel died of a gunshot wound to the head and said his death was a homicide.
