Green is the new black in Tinseltown. And not just because it’s St. Patrick’s Day. Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Cameron Diaz and Al Gore are just a few of Hollywood’s stars gone green — and by green, we mean eco-friendly, of course. Here’s a look at just a few celebs who have hopped on the green bandwagon.
Leonardo DiCaprio
Known as one of the most outspoken eco-celebs in Hollywood, DiCaprio has narrated three environmental films, including the documentary “11th Hour.” His Web site, leonardodicaprio.org, is devoted to issues such as global warming and sustainability.
Brad Pitt
As part of his green-building movement in New Orleans, Pitt is partnering with film producer Steve Bing to build 150 “affordable and sustainable homes” in the city’s devastated lower 9th Ward, according to cnn.com.
Al Gore
The former vice president has won an Oscar and a Nobel Peace Prize for his work on global warming, including his 2006 documentary “An Inconvenient Truth.”
Matt Damon
Last year, the “Bourne Identity” actor lent his star power to greendimes.com, an organizationthat attempts to halt the tons of junk mail delivered to American homes each day. He also recently jumped on the hybrid car wagon.
George Clooney
In 2006, Clooney appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair’s first green issue. He also launched Oil Change, a campaign dedicated to saying good night and good luck to America’s dependence on oil.
Cameron Diaz
As a member of the Environmental Media Association and a friend of Gore, she has filmed public service announcements about conserving energy and regularly speaks out about her own recycling habits. In 2005, the Prius-driving actress filmed an MTV travelogue called “Eco Trippin’ ” intended to shed light on the saving the world.
Cate Blanchett
The actress’ home in her native Australia is powered by solar panels, and she and her husband are working to put on an environmentally friendly show for the Sydney Theatre Company. Blanchett has worked with and contributed a great deal to green organizations, including the Forest Guardians, which works to preserve and restore native wildlands and wildlife in the American Southwest.
