The Chicago Housing Authority is expected Tuesday to split its $61 million housing choice voucher contract between two companies.
Since 1995, the private firm of CHAC Inc. has handled all the day-to-day management of the so-called Section 8 program.
Under a proposal set for a vote by the CHA’s board of commissioners, CVR Associates would take on many of CHAC’s duties, including property inspections and handling tenant calls. “Our goal is really to improve customer service and create more competition,” CHA spokesman Bryan Zises said.
The federal housing choice voucher program tries to help low-income families move into private apartments by ensuring they pay no more than 30 percent of their income in rent.
