WISCONSIN BLAST: Two people were injured Tuesday in a chemical plant explosion in Spooner in northwestern Wisconsin. The plant, owned by Cortec Corp., makes aerosols and paint solvents. The two injured workers suffered what were believed to be first- or second-degree burns, the company said.
STUDENT MEMORIAL: An estimated 10,000 mourners gathered Tuesday at the University of North Carolina’s basketball arena to memorialize slain student body president Eve Carson, 22. Her father asked the crowd to find solutions to the world’s violence, prejudice and inequity. Two people have been charged in what police called a random act of violence.
SEA LIONS TARGETED: Federal authorities on Tuesday authorized Oregon and Washington officials to euthanize sea lions if need be to thwart their annual spring feast on threatened salmon at Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River. The first step, though, would be to try to catch the sea lions and see whether an aquarium or zoo would take them.
