Fans of the original teen prime-time soap “Beverly Hills 90210” are drooling over the prospect of a spinoff — a “90210” for the next generation.
“Veronica Mars” creator Rob Thomas is writing a pilot for the show for CW (which hasn’t greenlit the project yet), and details of the script are starting to leak out, Variety reported.
The show will follow the Mills family from Kansas to Beverly Hills. The father, a graduate of West Beverly High, returns as principal of the school when his mother, an actress, goes into rehab.
As in the original, there are two same-age siblings, though in this case, they’re not twins because the 16-year-old boy (Dixon) is adopted. Dixon’s a smart bad boy with social and behavioral issues, while his sister Annie is an artsy, emo girl who longs to run with the cool crowd, according to Variety.
Thomas told People magazine that he hopes to have the cast return to the Peach Pit and get a cast member from the original series to appear on the show. And could the two Silver characters be the offspring of David Silver (David Austin Green) and Donna Martin (Tori Spelling) from the original? Here’s hoping.
Eager to see this project move ahead, RedEye has some suggestions for casting.
Harrison Mills (the dad): Luke Perry, from the original
