Wrongful death lawsuit settled

The family of a slain fast-food restaurant employee, Burger King and a north suburban franchisee settled a wrongful death lawsuit Wednesday. Mary Hutchison, 45, of Trevor, Wis., was stabbed and strangled in an apparent robbery in November 2006, at a Burger King restaurant in Lindenhurst, authorities said. Lake County prosecutors say James Ealy, a former Burger King worker, strangled her with her uniform bow tie during a robbery.

CTA has plan for high fuel prices

The CTA is buying lighter-weight buses and speeding up delivery of hybrid-powered buses to combat rising fuel costs, officials said Wednesday. The moves come amid near-record gas prices as part of an attempt to stay within the agency’s $66 million fuel budget for 2008. No service cuts or fare increases are being planned for this year as a result of the increased gas costs, said CTA President Ron Huberman. He did not rule out fare increases in 2009, however.

Judge to broaden silence challenge

A federal judge Wednesday said he would broaden the challenge against the Illinois law requiring a moment of silence at the start of the school day into a class-action suit that could include students and school districts across the state. Currently, the suit is limited to Township High School District 214 in the northwest suburbs.
