The White Sox placed infielder Juan Uribe on waivers Wednesday, according to a major-league scout.

But Uribe, who didn’t play against Colorado, and agent Martin Arburua were unaware of such a move. The Sox made no announcement, and major-league teams cannot comment on players placed on waivers unless they’re removing them from the 40-man roster.

“I’m going to Phoenix, but I don’t know,” Uribe told a pool reporter between the Sox’s clubhouse and Tucson Electric Park. Uribe said he expects to accompany the Sox when they travel to the Valley to play three games, starting Thursday against the L.A. Dodgers.

Placing Uribe on waivers could be a way for the Sox to measure interest in Uribe, who is making $4.5 million this season. Uribe moved from shortstop to second base and is hitting .333 (11-for-33) this spring. The Sox have been pleased with his attitude since making room for Orlando Cabrera.

The Sox’s other in-house options at second base are Alexei Ramirez, who is more polished at shortstop and center fielder but has adjusted well in his first major-league camp since leaving Cuba, and Pablo Ozuna, who is more suited to a utility role.

Danny Richar, who started the final two months at second base, will undergo an MRI on his back, which has nagged him for most of this spring.
