Alert drivers in Crystal Lake at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday caught a break when a Shell gas station mistakenly dropped its price by a dollar — to $2.49 a gallon for regular. Less than 45 minutes later, the manager had arrived and changed the price to $3.49.

Cops: Stolen art seized

An investigation into gun trafficking by gang members led police to an unexpected treasure on the Far South Side on Monday night: a van containing eight paintings valued by their owner at $100,000. The artwork was found in a van outside the home of Tirnell Williams in West Pullman, police said. The eight paintings had been missing since a burglary March 8 at a storage facility in Lincolnwood. Williams, 31, and Joseph Saleski, 18, were charged in the case.
