Governor says he’ll fight to keep Cubs at Wrigley
Gov. Blagojevich said Thursday he’ll do all he can to keep the Cubs playing at Wrigley Field as Tribune owner Sam Zell looks to sell the team and the ballpark. Zell has been interested in selling Wrigley to the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority, a state-city agency. Former Illinois Gov. Jim Thompson, ISFA chairman, is said to be expected to make a formal offer to Zell soon to acquire and renovate the park.
High school coach faces sex abuse charges
A recently fired basketball coach at Walter Payton College Prep High School on the Near North Side has been charged with abusing two 15-year-old female students in three separate incidents dating to late December, authorities said Thursday. George Turner, 45, of the 1800 block of West Haddon Avenue, was being held in lieu of $275,000 bail Thursday on felony charges of criminal sexual assault and criminal sexual abuse, authorities said.
