A Dunkin’ Donuts in Wicker Park was closed Thursday after city inspectors said it had an “out of control” insect problem.

Inspectors with the city’s Dumpster Task Force visited the Dunkin Donuts at 1244 N. Ashland Ave. after receiving a complaint, according to a press release from the Department of Streets and Sanitation.

They spotted several insects on doughnuts, counters and walls, and two dead flies on the inner ledge of the freezer where employees scoop ice cream, the release said. The shop was closed after being issued citations for inadequate pest control, failing to protect their foods from contamination and failure to have a food service manager on the premises, the release said. It will be allowed to reopen after it passes a reinspection.

A cashier reached at the Dunkin’ Donuts on Thursday night said the shop was being cleaned and was expected to reopen by Friday afternoon.
