School ups patrol after threat
More patrols roamed Lincoln Park High School on Friday morning after a man threatened to open fire at the school, officials said. The man who made the threat on a CTA bus Thursday afternoon was arrested and charged with two misdemeanors Friday morning, authorities said.
“About 3 p.m., [the suspect] got on a bus and made a threat of gun violence, saying it would happen today at the school,” Chicago Public Schools spokesman Malon Edwards said. “[Lincoln Park] students on the bus heard him.” Jovan Battle, 21, of Logan Square was arrested and charged with assault and disorderly conduct, authorities said.
Rookery building bank robbed
Two armed men robbed a bank in the historic Rookery building in the Loop on Friday morning, but there were no injuries, Chicago police said. The two men burst into the national landmark building, 209 S. LaSalle St., that houses a U.S. Bank branch and demanded money around 11 a.m., Officer Marcel Bright said. After a teller turned over an unknown amount of cash, the robbers ran off, authorities said. Police only had a vague description of the robbers. The FBI had no immediate information on the heist.
CTA ALERT
Weekend ‘L’ work
* Rail service between the Jefferson Park and Cumberland stations on the Blue Line will be suspended through 3 a.m. Monday so work on eliminating slow zones can resume, the Chicago Transit Authority said Thursday. Bus shuttles running between the Jefferson Park, Harlem and Cumberland stations will provide alternative transportation, the CTA said.
* Sunday marks the start of the CTA’s three-track operation at the Belmont and Fullerton stations, which will limit southbound trains passing through those stations to a single track, officials said.
* Also Sunday, the Paulina station on the Brown Line and the Wellington station will close for renovations. At that time, the Southport station on the Brown Line and the Diversey station will reopen.
