Who says kings and queens need to be old and stodgy?

Showtime’s drama “The Tudors” kicked off its second season Sunday night with smokin’ hot Jonathan Rhys Meyers as King Henry VIII and sultry Natalie Dormer as Anne Boleyn, Henry’s second wife.

It seems Hollywood has tossed out its rule book for rulers and is crowning hotties as kings and queens instead of putting older actors in the roles. All hail the loveliest leaders on screen.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers

ROLE: King Henry VIII, “The Tudors”

HEAT: Who knew kings spent so much time with their shirts off? We likey.

Cate Blanchett

ROLE: Queen Elizabeth I, “Elizabeth,” “Elizabeth: The Golden Age”

HEAT: Haughty, yes, but undeniably hot, even with the makeup and wigs.

Gerard Butler

ROLE: King Leonidis, “300”

HEAT: Boulder-like abs, a fighting spirit and a Scottish accent. Need we say more?

Jet Li

ROLE: The Monkey King, “The Forbidden Kingdom”

HEAT: A sense of honor is very sexy. So is a neatly shaved buzz cut.

Dwayne Johnson

ROLE: Mathayus the Scorpion King, “The Scorpion King,” “The Mummy Returns”

HEAT: Another chiseled warrior king. They don’t make ’em like that anymore.

Natalie Portman

ROLE: Anne Boleyn, “The Other Boleyn Girl”

HEAT: Portman (right) has experience playing a hot queen — she was Queen Amidala in the first “Star Wars” prequel.

Eric Bana

ROLE: King Henry VIII, “The Other Boleyn Girl”

HEAT: Like Rhys Meyers, Bana brings kingly sex appeal to the role.
