Jeff Francoeur hit two home runs and drove in a career-high seven runs as the Braves routed the Nationals 10-2. Francoeur had a three-run homer in the first inning and a two-run shot in the sixth.
Diamondbacks outfielder Justin Upton went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, including a three-run homer, in a 10-3 rout of the Rockies. Upton, 20, is hitting .415 with five home runs and 10 RBIs.
Roy Halladay dominated the Rangers, throwing first-pitch strikes to 27 of 34 batters and taking a shutout into the ninth in the Blue Jays’ 4-1 victory. Halladay went the distance, scattering six hits.
THREE DOWN
Poor Matt Cain. The hard-luck Giants pitcher took a no-hitter into the seventh and homered to help build a 5-0 lead. Alas, Cain tired and the bullpen collapsed as the Cardinals won 8-7 in 10 innings.
Johan Santana gave up three homers in his home debut as the Mets fell to Ben Sheets and the Brewers 5-3. “He pitched good and I didn’t,” Santana said. “He was better than me.”
Indians starter Fausto Carmona, two days after striking it rich with a seven-year, $48 million contract extension, walked eight and gave up three runs in 3 1/3 innings in a 7-3 loss to the Athletics.
