Households that now have at least one pet reptile, the pet industry estimates, a number that has nearly doubled in a decade. Reptiles are increasingly popular in a crowded, urbanized nation. They don’t need a yard. You don’t have to walk a lizard. But biologists see the trade in non-native creatures as a factor in the rise in invasive species, such as Burmese pythons, which are breeding in the Everglades.
