On the heels of last weekend’s waffle report, this week we bring you the recent news in candy.
Chicago institution Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co., the maker of the chewing gum, announced Monday it will sell control of its business to candy giant Mars in a $23 billion deal. The marriage will create the world’s largest confectionery company with brands ranging from Extra and Orbit gums to Snickers and M&Ms candy.
To celebrate the launch of her new album, “Hard Candy,” Madonna on Wednesday performed a free 32-minute set at the Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan, where Justin Timberlake made an appearance. Fans waited more than 48 hours to get their hands on tickets.
Chocolate is good for pregnant women, according to a Yale research study published in the May issue of Epidemiology. The study shows eating chocolate may help reduce the risk of preeclampsia, a serious complication during pregnancy that’s resolved only by delivering immediately.
