Chien-Ming Wang became the AL’s first six-game winner and the Yankees improved to 27-7 when he starts following a loss, winning 11 in a row. Wang improved to 7-0 vs. Seattle in seven starts.
Pat Burrell hit a two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, lifting the Phillies over the Giants 6-5. He hit a 3-2 pitch into the left-field seats, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
Miguel Tejada, Lance Berkman and Carlos Lee hit consecutive home runs off Milwaukee’s Carlos Villanueva in a four-run sixth. It was the fifth time in team history Houston hit three straight homers.

A dazed Carlos Gomez was carted off the field in the fifth inning after taking a throw from Detroit’s Ivan Rodriguez off the head while stealing second. The Twin had stolen two bases and scored twice.
Former All-Star closer Derrick Turnbow was cut by the Brewers. He was 0-1 with a 15.63 ERA in eight games. Manager Ned Yost said: “It was hard to find spots to use him.”
Houston second baseman Kaz Matsui committed three errors, two fielding and one throwing — over the head of first baseman Lance Berkman into the stands with two outs in the ninth inning.
