FUNDS VANISH: Two middlemen entrusted with $29.8 million in Taiwanese funds as part of a secret effort to forge relations with Papua New Guinea made off with the money, officials said. Foreign Minister James Huang said Vice Premier Chiou I-jen picked the two men in 2006 to convey the money, part of a government fund used to persuade other governments to extend diplomatic recognition.
