Ex-White Sox Jon Garland went past seven innings for the first time since his season debut, allowing three hits in eight innings and retiring 18 of his last 19 in the Angels’ 3-1 victory over the Orioles.

After the Mariners lost their fourth in a row Saturday against the Yankees, manager John McLaren dressed down the team with a screaming postgame tirade that was heard outside the clubhouse.
Marlins starter Ricky Nolasco fell to 1-3 after giving up six runs and 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings in a 7-2 loss to the Padres. Nolasco’s ERA swelled to 6.10. He hasn’t won a game since April 11.
The Rays’ James Shields tossed a shutout in his previous start against the Red Sox last weekend but went only 3 2/3 innings Saturday, giving up seven runs and 10 hits in a 12-4 loss.
