Pavement patching is scheduled to begin Tuesday on some of the worst sections of North Lake Shore Drive as a temporary stopgap until a resurfacing project starts in the summer, city officials said Monday.
The patching work is planned from Belmont Avenue to Hollywood Avenue, according to the Chicago Department of Transportation. The repairs will begin on the northbound lanes at Belmont, then the southbound lanes. Work will occur over the next two weeks, weather permitting.
During off-peak hours, crews will remove several inches of the existing pavement surface on sections of the most deteriorated pavement, lay down new asphalt and roll it to create a smoother surface, officials said.
The city will begin a full resurfacing this summer of all lanes of North Lake Shore Drive between Irving Park Road and Foster Avenue. The $4.5 million project is funded by the state, which has jurisdiction over Lake Shore Drive.
