INDICTED: Prosecutors in New York announced an indictment against a reputed Russian arms smuggler, Victor Bout, who they say tried to sell weapons to a U.S.-designated terrorist organization with the goal of killing Americans. The U.S. is seeking his extradition from Thailand.
CHARGE DROPPED: Criminal charges were dropped Tuesday against a Pennsylvania doctor accused of causing the death of a 5-year-old autistic boy by incorrectly administering the wrong drug for him. Dr. Roy Kerry, 70, still faces a civil lawsuit by the boy’s parents.
ROCKET FUEL: An Environmental Protection Agency official said there’s a “distinct possibility” the agency won’t try to rid drinking water of a toxic rocket fuel ingredient in water supplies around the country. Benjamin Grumbles said at a Senate hearing that the EPA has yet to determine whether regulating perchlorate in drinking water would do much good.
BIG PLANS: Georgia Aquarium, the world’s largest, announced Tuesday a $110 million expansion that will feature dolphins.
GAY GOVERNOR: Lawyers representing the nation’s first openly gay governor and his estranged wife ended the first day of their New Jersey divorce trial Tuesday. Closed-door discussions involved the 6-year-old daughter of former Gov. Jim McGreevey and Dina Matos McGreevey.
