THREE UP
James Shields posted his second shutout in three starts. In the 2-0 win, the righty held the Angels to two baserunners: Brandon Wood’s single in the third and Erick Aybar hit-by-pitch in the fourth.
Freddy Sanchez’s two-out, RBI single in the ninth gave the Pirates a 3-2 win over Atlanta. He went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and is 9-for-17 in four games — all wins — since being moved to the leadoff spot.
Scott Feldman and three relievers combined for the Rangers’ third straight shutout, running their scoreless streak to 31 innings. The club record is 39 innings, set in April 1981 over four shutouts.
THREE DOWN
Two pitches, two outs? Too easy. Closer Jason
Isringhausen then loaded the bases and gave up a two-run single to Rickie Weeks, a .196 hitter, in a 4-3 loss to Milwaukee.
It was his fifth blown save.
Roy Halladay lost his fourth in five starts. He struck out nine and had a 1-0 lead until the seventh, when he loaded the bases to set up Casey Blake’s go-ahead, two-run double for the Indians.
Pat Neshek was bracing for bad news about his right elbow. He got it. An MRI revealed the sidearm setup man has an acute partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament, effectively ending his season..
