Motherhood to Otherhood
Use the Lessons Learned as a Mom to Create Your New Life
By Julia Roberts (Running Press, $14.95 paper)
You dedicated nine months to pregnancy; it’s time to dedicate nine months to your “Unpregnancy,” writes author Julia Roberts. Each “trimester” in the unpregnancy plan focuses on life goals.
1. Conception (figuring out what you want) is the fun part and essential to realizing your dreams. Write down desires so you can narrow them down.
2. To come up with goals for your first trimester (Self), think about your bad habits and addictions, then imagine how life would improve if you eliminated them.
3. For love goals, consider: Are you getting the love you want? Try listening with little talking for a full day to get a clearer view of family.
4. For work, consider activities you loved and dreams you had as a younger woman. Think about someone whose job you admire and consider how you could achieve that.
5. Just as you needed pressure to give birth, you’ll need self-imposed pressure to change your life. Commit to the actions that need to be taken to make your goals reality.
