Ben Sheets became the Brewers’ all-time leader in strikeouts Saturday with 1,082. Sheets fanned Albert Pujols to replace Teddy Higuera on the all-time list in 110 fewer innings.
Grady Sizemore hit a pair of home runs and drove in five runs to lead the Indians to a 12-0 rout of the Blue Jays. His leadoff homer in the first inning started a six-run frame off Dustin McGowan.
Shortstop Hanley Ramirez and the Marlins agreed to a six-year, $70 million contract, the richest in franchise history, according to sources. The Marlins’ entire payroll this season is $22 million.
THREE DOWN
Blue Jays center fielder Vernon Wells was placed on the 15-day disabled list and is expected to miss six to eight weeks after breaking his left wrist while making a diving catch Friday.
Kevin Millwood left Saturday’s game against the A’s with a strained right groin. He threw just 12 pitches and retired two batters. He was on the DL twice last year with a strained left hamstring.
The Nationals’ Mike O’Connor made his first start since Sept. 28, 2006, and it didn’t go well. O’Connor was chased during a seven-run fourth inning in an 11-0 loss to the Marlins.
