Gabe Gross singled with no outs in the 11th, scoring pinch-runner Jonny Gomes for a 2-1 Rays victory over the Yankees that moved the team into first. It was the first run Mariano Rivera has allowed.
It wasn’t easy, but Eric Gagne earned his 10th save in a 5-3 Brewers victory over the Dodgers. He put two men on base with two outs before getting Juan Pierre to pop to short on the first pitch.

Red Sox starter Josh Beckett pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up 11 hits and all five runs in a 5-4 loss to the Orioles. Beckett entered 4-0 with a 2.05 ERA in four career starts at Camden Yards.
Edgar Renteria committed a throwing error in the eighth on a backhanded flip to second base, allowing Esteban German to score, the game-winner in a 3-2 Royals’ win over the Tigers.
Reds shortstop Jeff Keppinger fouled a pitch off his knee in the second inning Tuesday. He stayed in, drew a walk and played defense for two innings before leaving with a broken left kneecap.
