Jayson Werth homered in his first three at-bats and tied a team record with eight RBIs in the Phillies’ 10-3 rout. Werth and the Reds’ Joey Votto are the only two to hit three HRs this season.

Andy Sonnanstine did it with his arm and bat Friday. The Rays starter carried a shutout into the eighth inning and had a pair of singles in a 3-1 win. Sonnanstine is 5-0 in his last six starts and 6-1 overall.

Josh Hamilton was 5-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs in the Rangers’ 16-8 rout. Hamilton missed the cycle by just a double. Hamilton now with a major league-high 49 RBIs.

THREE DOWN

Tough night on two fronts for the Blue Jays’ David Purcey, who gave up five hits, eight runs, four walks and two home runs in three innings of a 10-3 loss and was sent back to Triple A after.

Shawn Chacon lasted just 3 1/3 innings Friday and left trailing 8-2 to the Rangers. But the Astros tied the game and Chacon set an ML record with his 9th straight no-decision to start a season.

Shortstop Hanley Ramirez, on the verge of a $70 million contract extension, had an error that allowed two unearned runs to score and went 0-for-5 in the Marlins’ 7-6 loss to the Royals.
