BRIDGE BIRTHDAY: New Yorkers celebrated the Brooklyn Bridge’s 125th birthday with a blowout Thursday night that included fireworks and a birthday cake in the shape of the storied span.
PICASSOS STOLEN: Two Pablo Picasso etchings worth a combined $450,000 were stolen early Thursday from a gallery in Palm Beach, police said. The two works, “The Frugal Meal” and “Jacqueline Lisant,” were taken from Gallery Biba after a back glass door was smashed.
GUILTY: Jurors on Thursday convicted Brian Rooney in the 2006 rape and murder of University of Vermont student Michelle Gardner-Quinn, 21. Rooney, 37, faces a mandatory sentence of life without parole.
HUBBLE VISIT: The shuttle Atlantis will make NASA’s final visit to the Hubble Space Telescope on Oct. 8, the agency said. The mission to upgrade the 18-year-old telescope was to occur in August but was delayed because of the extra time that was needed to build shuttle fuel tanks.
