THREE UP

He hit the ball hard, but Prince Fielder’s legs got the win when he scored in the 11th. Manager Ned Yost: “Prince just missed four homers. You add up his outs … it could have been 1,500 feet.”

Nick Markakis just keeps hitting his favorite target: Darrell Rasner. One of Markakis’ two hits off the Yankees starter was a solo HR for a 1-0 lead in the sixth. He’s 9-for-11 against the righty.

Scott Kazmir won his fourth straight start, striking out 10 in seven innings. The lefty retired his first 10 batters, seven on Ks. He has given up two runs over 26 innings during his winning streak.

THREE DOWN

Brandon Webb’s 9-0 start was rare. So was his second straight loss. He allowed a season-high 10 hits and seven runs (four earned) in 41/3 — his shortest start since lasting four innings on Oct. 1, 2006.

The Royals were swept in back-to-back four-game series. They even lost track of outs in the eighth, lingering on the field after an inning-ending double play. Trey Hillman: “That’s very, very disturbing.”

Mike Pelfrey lasted four innings after giving up six runs on six hits and three walks to drop his sixth straight start. The Mets (23-26) fell three below .500 for the first time since Sept. 18, 2005.
