Governorrenews film tax credit legislation
Gov. Blagojevich has signed a bill that renews the Film Tax Credit, saying it helped bring Illinois revenues of $155 million last year. At a signing ceremony in the Loop, the governor was joined by Chicago native Harold Ramis and others in the movie business. Blagojevich says that since the tax credit was enacted in 2003, the amount of revenue for the state has jumped dramatically — about 80 percent between 2006 and 2007 alone.
Execs accused
of importing tainted honey
Two Chicago executives have been charged with conspiring to illegally import honey from China, federal authorities announced Tuesday. The executives of Alfred L. Wolff Inc. were accused of knowingly bringing in honey contaminated with an antibiotic banned by the Food and Drug Administration, according to the U.S. attorney’s office. Stefanie Giesselbach, 30, of Chicago was charged along with Magnus von Buddenbrock, 32, also of Chicago.
Sailors arrested in taxi incident
Two sailors from the Great Lakes Naval Training Center were arrested Monday for allegedly carjacking a taxi and then setting it on fire, the Lake County sheriff’s office said. A taxi with the Chicago Carriage Cab Co. picked up two sailors in Chicago to take them to North Chicago, police said. Terry Gappa, 20, of Plymouth, Mass., and Aaron Couch, 21, of Monroe, La., were charged.
