Christian Bale hopes “The Dark Knight” will be a fitting celebration of the late Heath Ledger’s film career. The 34-year-old Bale talked to details.com about Ledger’s performance.
“[Ledger] was incredibly intense in his performance but incredibly mellow and laid-back. Certainly there was this great anarchistic streak to it — just getting dirtier than anybody’s envisioned the Joker before,” Bale told details.com. Ledger died of an accidental overdose in January.
Bale also talked about his battles with the Batsuit, which made him feel claustrophobic.
“I just said to myself, ‘Breathe deeply for a few minutes. Try this out. Don’t run around yelling … trying to pull the whole thing off.'”
“I wasn’t going to get it off by myself. It takes three people.”
“The Dark Knight,” which was filmed in Chicago, hits theaters in July.

Will Smith on his Hollywood marriage
Ten years of marriage is about as rare as wrinkled foreheads in Hollywood, but Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have made it that far because, as Smith says, divorce is not an option.
Smith explained on Monday’s episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” that he thinks the problem with L.A. marriages is “there are so many options. So a huge part of the success for [Jada] and I is that we just removed the other options,” he said, according to excerpts on people.com.
Meanwhile, Smith has been such a successful actor that DeGeneres suggested he jump into politics, according to the excerpts.
“I do think about [running for office] sometimes,” Smith said. “Right up until that Monday after the movie opens and I have a 100 percent approval rating. No politician is ever going to have that.”

A party fit for a King(ston)
Remember the time your mom invited some nerdy kid to your birthday party so he wouldn’t feel left out? Or maybe you were that nerdy kid.
Yeah, Kingston Rossdale doesn’t have that problem.
The son of Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale celebrated his second birthday on Sunday with a slew of future A-listers and their celeb parents, according to people.com.
Christina Aguilera, along with her newborn, Max, and husband Jordan Bratman joined 40 guests in the Rossdale’s backyard for a safari-themed party. Nicole Richie, Joel Madden and their daughter, Harlow, also attended, according to People, as did Victoria and David Beckham and their son Cruz.
Rossdale was seen jumping in a moonbounce with the younger guests, while Cruz Beckham took pony rides.

‘Idol’ win scores Cook a dinner date
David Cook is reaping the rewards of winning “American Idol.” Cook had a dinner date with Season 2 “Idol” contestant Kimberly Caldwell, he confirmed Tuesday on “Live With Regis and Kelly.” They went to a steakhouse, he said.
Cook, 25, asked out the “Idol Tonight” co-host during a live broadcast of her show last Wednesday.
“I’m just excited because I finally get to actually talk to you,” he said on the show. “So I’m actually going to ask you out to dinner right now.”
Surprised, Caldwell hugged him and gave him a peck on the cheek — and apparently agreed to the date. On Tuesday, Cook told Regis and Kelly that the pair had a good time. “We’ll probably hang out again,” he said. “So we’ll see.”
