Barrington

*The annual golf open to benefit the Harper College Educational Foundation will be held Monday at Makray Memorial Golf Club, 1010 S. Northwest Highway. Bag drop, driving range and a free golf clinic will begin at 8:30 a.m. The shotgun scramble starts at 10 a.m. Lunch will be on the course, and a buffet reception and awards ceremony with former Chicago Bear Jim Schwantz will follow. *The annual Clearbrook Women’s Golf Classic will be held Wednesday at Makray Memorial Golf Club, 1010 S. Northwest Highway. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and includes breakfast and golf clinics. A helicopter will drop numbered balls onto the course for the 11 a.m. shotgun start and the person whose ball lands closest to the pin will win $1,000. The 18-hole event will feature martinis, massages, and chocolate and lunch on the course. Cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and live and silent auctions will follow. Ball-drop tickets cost $25 each or two for $40. Event tickets cost $250 and proceeds will benefit children and adults with disabilities. *The annual golf outing sponsored by the Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association will begin with a 10 a.m. shotgun start June 12 at Foxford Hills, 6800 S. Rawson Bridge Rd. The cost is $125 per golfer and $500 per foursome and includes 18 holes, lunch on the course and $1 Million Hole-in-One contests. Proceeds will benefit the association, a cooperative of 13 park districts and cities, providing recreation and Special Olympics training in McHenry and parts of Cook, Lake and Kane Counties. *The City of Elgin Amazin’ Race will be held June 7. Sign-in will be from noon to 12:30 p.m. The 1 p.m. race will start at the Elgin Public House, 219 E. Chicago St. Teams consisting of 4 to 8 people will race through downtown Elgin searching for clues to the next stop. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. Registration will be accepted through June 6 in The Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way. The entry fee is $99 per team and proceeds will benefit Parks and Recreation’s Youth Scholarship Fund. *The annual golf outing sponsored by the Clearbrook Guardians/PAL Program will be held June 10 at Old Orchard Country Club, 700 W. Rand Rd. Tee time is 11 a.m. The cost is $195 per golfer and includes lunch, dinner, raffles and auctions. Dinner-only tickets cost $75. Proceeds will benefit children and adults with disabilities. *Michelle’s Huge Sixth Annual Charitable Yard Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 1123 W. Glencoe Rd., south of Palatine Road and west of Quentin Road. All proceeds from the cash-only sale will benefit the Children’s Neurobiological Solutions Foundation.

Woodstock

*A Hosta Happening will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Rich’s Foxwillow Pines Nursery, 11618 McConnell Rd. More than 350 types of hosta will be for sale. Learn how to identify unknown hosta leaves at 10 a.m. and take a walk through the nursery with owner Richard Eyre at 1 p.m. All proceeds will benefit Heifer International and will be matched by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support the new East Africa Dairy Development Project.
