Staying friends? Sometimes it works

One of my ex-girlfriends and I did not actually end things with “I want to stay friends,” but circumstances led to that happening anyway (“Time to break it off with your ex,” Boy on Boystown, May 15). I wouldn’t say she and I are friends now, but we’ve agreed to be amicable acquaintances.

Another ex-girlfriend and I did end things with those five words. After several years without communication — I guess we weren’t that good of friends — we found each other and she’s actually moving in. I couldn’t be happier.

Don’t hate because I date outside my race

I am an African-American male who has a Hispanic girlfriend (“Black dating scene faces battle of the sexes,” Hump Day, May 21).

I am one of the guys you talked about: educated, no kids, full-time job, no criminal record — all that stuff black women say they want. Black women dismiss me despite all of that. It’s sad because I love black women. I

So I find it disheartening when I get these looks from black women because I think that they had a shot at me and they blew it.
