GALAPAGOS THREAT: A volcano on the largest of the Galapagos Islands has begun erupting, and authorities are evaluating possible dangers to the island’s famed plant and animal life, officials said. Rangers and tour guides have spotted lava on the northeastern flank of the Cerro Azul volcano on the island of Isabela.
ORDINATIONS: The Vatican issued a new warning that women taking part in ordinations will be excommunicated, insisting that it is following Christian tradition. Monsignor Angel Amato of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith said the church acted after what it described as “so-called ordinations” held in various parts of the world.
