Russell Martin went 4-for-4 with three RBIs as the Dodgers pulled out a 9-5 win over Mets. Martin had an RBI double in the first inning, a solo homer in the fourth and an RBI single in the eighth.
Bobby Abreu tripled twice and scored all four times he reached base, igniting a Yankees rally past the Twins for a 6-5 win. The Yanks rescued Mike Mussina, who allowed four runs in the first.
Center fielder Grady Sizemore starred with his glove and his bat in the Indians’ 5-4 win over the Royals. He homered twice and made a game-saving catch of Jose Guillen’s drive at the wall for the last out.
THREE DOWN
Braves third baseman Chipper Jones had a tough night in a 3-2, 11-inning loss to the Reds. Jones went 0-for-5 and botched Brandon Phillips’ grounder, which allowed Jay Bruce to score the winning run.
Mets reliever Aaron Heilman watched his ERA soar to 6.67 after allowing four straight hits without recording an out in the Dodgers’ five-run eighth. Heilman was charged with four runs and the loss.
Orioles infielders Melvin Mora and Freddie Bynum made errors in the 13th inning, opening the door for three unearned runs as the Red Sox took a 5-2 victory. Bynum’s error allowed two insurance runs to score.
