Aaron Cook didn’t have much support, but he didn’t need much, pitching eight strong innings with six strikeouts and just one run allowed in the Rockies’ 2-1 win over the Dodgers to improve to 8-3.

Edinson Volquez lowered his ML-leading ERA to 1.32 after seven shutout innings in the Reds’ 2-0 win over the Phillies. Volquez struck out eight, walked two and hit two while improving to 8-2.

Joe Mauer homered and drove in two runs with one sacrifice fly as the Twins beat Baltimore 7-5. Mauer’s deep fifth-inning fly to center drove in Nick Punto from third and Carlos Gomez from second.

THREE DOWN

Remember when the Diamondbacks were the best in baseball? Well, the D’backs were swept for the second time in three series, losing to the Brewers 10-1. Arizona has lost 12 of its last 16 games.

In his second appearance since being recalled, Casey Fossum struggled in the Tigers’ 10-2 loss to the A’s. Fossum didn’t record an out while allowing four hits and four runs. His ERA is 135.00.

Fenway Park is likely not high on Edwin Jackson’s list. The Rays starter fell to 0-3 at the famed park after Wednesday’s 5-1 loss. In 22 innings, Jackson has given up 20 runs at Fenway.
