Protests continue
Steel workers joined thousands of civil servants in a demonstration during a one-day strike Tuesday in Marseille, France. The protests are over government plans to reform pensions and other workplace changes.
Deadly attack
A car bomb struck a busy market area in a mainly Shiite neighborhood in Baghdad on Tuesday, killing at least 12 people and wounding 42, officials said. It was the deadliest such attack in three months.
Flight cuts
Air Canada will cut up to 2,000 jobs, or 7 percent of its work force, and said Tuesday it is slashing capacity like other major carriers beset by record fuel prices. Canada’s biggest airline will reduce capacity on routes to the U.S. by 13 percent.
Flood help
President Bush pledged housing help and other federal aid to victims of Midwest storms and said he would inspect flood damage in a trip to Iowa on Thursday.
Lemonade standoff
A young girl from Terre Haute, Ind., whose lemonade stand was robbed of $17.50 chased the suspect into a nearby home and called police, who spent nearly an hour trying to coax the man into surrendering.
Tomatoes are back
Tomatoes are coming back on the menus at Yum Brands’ restaurants, including Taco Bell, after the recent salmonella scare. Yum also is the parent company of KFC, Pizza Hut, A&W and Long John Silver’s restaurants.

WASHINGTON, D.C.: President Bush and his wife, Laura, attend a wake Tuesday at St. Albans School for Tim Russert, the NBC newsman who died Friday. White House press secretary Dana Perino said Bush wanted to pay his respects and offer his deepest sympathies to the Russert family. The funeral for the 58-year-old host of NBC’s “Meet the Press” is scheduled to take place Wednesday.
