*The College of Lake County trustees recently decided to convert the college’s Campus Safety Department to a full police department. Officers will start carrying firearms Oct. 1. The department’s sworn officers complete firearms training each year and now carry batons and pepper spray. In the event of a situation requiring greater force, they will seek help from neighboring municipal police departments.
