The basis for “The Magnificent Seven,” this 1954 Japanese classic is directed by legendary filmmaker Akira Kurosawa. An overwhelmed village is constantly under attack by a large group of well-armed bandits. At the end of their collective rope, the villagers ask the advice of an elder, who says salvation will come if they hire seven samurai. Luckily, they find a kind warrior willing to recruit the others. Takashi Shimura and Toshiro Mifune star.
