THREE UP
Justin Duchscherer improved to 4-0 in June and became the AL ERA leader at 1.99 after giving up one run in 72/3 innings as the A’s beat the Marlins 7-1 to take the rubber game of the series.
Seven different hitters had RBIs as the Royals rallied from eight runs down to beat the Giants 11-10. It was the second-biggest comeback in team history (behind nine in 1979 vs. the Brewers).
Prince Fielder homered twice, giving him 16 for year, in the Brewers’ 7-3 win. Fielder is hitting .341 (47-for-138) with 11 HRs in last 36 games. “Hopefully, I can keep it up,” he said.
THREE DOWN
Nationals starter John Lannan didn’t get a decision Sunday but bruised his right wrist on a comebacker. Lannan hasn’t won in his last six starts and has received just four runs in those starts.
Cardinals CF Rick Ankiel overran then slipped on Coco Crisp’s fly ball in the eighth inning, leading to a triple and two Red Sox runs. The Cardinals lost in 13 innings, spoiling a chance for a sweep.
Paul Byrd’s road woes continued. The Indians starter fell to 1-7 with a 7.19 ERA on the road after losing 4-3 to the Dodgers. Byrd has lost three straight since winning his 100th career game June 6. .
