*HORSE RACING: Big Brown’s owner, Michael Iavarone, said the 50-plus horses owned by his syndicate will be drug-free by the end of the year. That includes steroids and all other legal racing medications except Lasix.
*COLLEGES: Two former Duquesne basketball players have sued the school over a 2006 shooting that injured them and three teammates. Kojo Mensah and Shawn James accuse the university of not providing adequate security.
*SOCCER: Josef Hickersberger quit as Austria’s coach, saying he was “empty and tired” after his team’s elimination from the European Championship. … Italy’s Roberto Rosetti was chosen as the referee for the European final.
*TENNIS: Swedish star Jonas Bjorkman, 34, said he will retire in October on his home soil after the Stockholm Open. He said he plans to play in the Beijing Olympics in August and the U.S. Open in September.
