Kelly Johnson, replacing Chipper Jones in the No. 3 hole for the Braves, had an RBI single and a two-run double in a 4-2 win over the Brewers. Atlanta won for only the third time in 13 games not started by Jones.
David Wright homered in each of the first two innings as the Mets beat the Mariners 8-2. Wright, who has 14 homers on the season, hit a solo shot in the first and cranked a two-run blast in the second.
Joba Chamberlain regularly hit 99 m.p.h. on the radar gun as he earned his first career win as a starter in the Yankees’ 10-0 victory over the Pirates. He allowed six hits and struck out seven in 6 2?3 innings.
THREE DOWN
In just his eighth big-league game, Marlins reliever Eulogio De La Cruz faced six batters and was pounded for six runs on four hits and two walks as part of the Rays’ 10-run fifth inning.
The defending NL champion Rockies fell to 14 games under .500 as the Royals finished off a three-game sweep with a 4-2 win. Even outfielder Matt Holliday went 0-for-3, ending his 11-game hitting streak.
The Diamondbacks mustered just three hits in a 5-0 loss to Tim Wakefield and the Red Sox. Arizona has taken a tumble since its 21-9 start. The D’backs have lost five of six and have slipped to just one game above .500.
