Rolling Stone film critic Peter Travers’ early review for Batman sequel “The Dark Knight” contains nothing but praise for Heath Ledger’s (right) final completed performance.
“If there’s a movement to get him. … [a] posthumous Oscar … sign me up,” said Travers, calling Ledger’s performance “mad-crazy-blazing brilliant.”
Giving the “stunner” movie three-and-a-half stars (out of four), Travers also notes that filming on the streets of Chicago brings a “a gritty reality to a cartoon fantasy.”
Special tributes to Ledger and special effects technician Conway Wickliffe, who died in September in a stunt-car accident, will occur during the film’s closing credits, according to The Associated Press. The film hits theaters July 18.
