The yellow glaze for the Hawthorn Series by Brooklyn-based KleinReid is designed to slowly run down each piece as it bakes in the kiln. That’s how this vase, the “Laburnum,” got those luscious ice-cream-on-a-hot-day drips at the base.

4. PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION

Original Teco pottery (1899-1920) emphasized spare geometry and minimal decoration. Today, Wheaton-based Prairie Arts (prairie-arts.com) has revived the legacy, offering seven Teco replicas, including “Kiss,” shown here in aqua, one of two new colors from the company (try orange too).
