THREE UP

Ken Griffey Jr., who entered as a defensive replacement in the top of the ninth inning, smacked a game-winning two-run homer in the bottom half off Matt Capps as the Reds rallied to beat the Pirates 4-3.

Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay dominated the light-hitting Mariners, pitching his sixth complete game of the season and 10th career shutout. He allowed just four hits without a walk and struck out six in a 2-0 victory.

Josh Willingham hit two homers, including the game-winner in the 10th off Jon Rauch, as the Marlins rallied for a 6-5 win over the Nationals. Willingham missed 50 games with a herniated disc earlier his year.

THREE DOWN

The Mets’ John Maine was roughed up by the Cardinals, yielding five runs (three earned) on seven hits in just four innings in a 7-1 loss. Maine also had a two-base error on a pickoff throw in the second.

The Dodgers’ Jason Repko, who was called up on Monday, went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts in his first appearance in the majors since 2006. He stranded four runners on base in a 4-1 loss to the Astros.

Orioles closer George Sherrill, who might receive an All-Star invite, blew his fifth save in 31 chances in a 6-5, 11-inning loss to the Royals. Sherrill gave up Miguel Olivo’s pinch homer with two outs in the ninth.
