Scott Olsen ended a winless streak of 11 starts by scattering four hits and one run over eight innings as the Marlins beat the Padres 5-2. The Crystal Lake South alum was taken down for a pinch-hitter in the ninth.

All-Star Josh Hamilton cracked a game-winning two-run homer off Francisco Rodriguez in the ninth as the Rangers rallied past the Angels 5-4. Hamilton drove a 3-1 curveball just over the right-field fence.

Miguel Cabrera continued his hot streak as he connected for his second walk-off homer of the season, a two-run shot in the ninth, as the Tigers rallied from a 6-0 deficit to beat the Indians 8-6.

THREE DOWN

The Diamondbacks’ offense continued its struggles, mustering just three singles in a 5-0 loss to the Nationals. Arizona, which entered the game hitting .246 for the season, also hit into three double plays.

Brewers reliever Guillermo Mota gave up two homers and four runs in the eighth as the Rockies pulled away for an 8-3 victory. Garrett Atkins had a solo shot and Joe Koshansky added a two-run blast.

The bad luck for Thornwood grad Mark Mulder continued as the Cardinals lefty threw just 16 pitches and left with more pain in his shoulder. He made his first start since September and hasn’t won in 25 months.
