– Salman Rushdie on learning that his 1981 novel “Midnight’s Children” was named Thursday as the greatest-ever winner of Britain’s most prestigious literary award, The Booker Prize. The book received more than a third of the 7,801 votes cast in a competition to mark the prize’s 40th anniversary. The book beat five other finalists.
