Roy Halladay tossed a two-hitter to win his third straight start and ML-leading seventh complete game in the Blue Jays’ 5-0 win over the Yankees. It was Halladay’s 11th career shutout.
Ronnie Belliard homered twice and drove in five runs in the Nationals’ 10-0 win over the Astros. Belliard’s second was the 100th of his career and his second multi-HR game this season.
It’s rare a pitcher from a last-place team starts an All-Star Game, but it could happen this year for the Indians’ Cliff Lee, who won his 12th and lowered his ERA to 2.31 with a 5-0 win over the Rays.
THREE DOWN
Clay Buchholz (2-4) didn’t have the magic this time against the Orioles. The Red Sox starter, who no-hit the O’s in September, gave up four runs in five innings and walked five in a 7-3 loss.
Angels right-hander Kelvim Escobar will have season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum. Escobar, 32, was first diagnosed in March. He held off on surgery to try rest and rehabilitation.
The Brewers made three errors that led to three unearned runs and let the go-ahead run score in the eighth on the third wild pitch of the game in a sloppy 6-5 loss to the Reds.
