*Women in Need Growing Stronger will hold its fourth annual Day at the Races from noon to 5 p.m. July 26 at Arlington Park, 2200 W. Euclid Ave. Tickets cost $75 and include live racing, a buffet, open bar, silent auction and raffle. The event will commemorate the life of Cindy Bischof, who was murdered by her boyfriend in March. *Author Ellyn Spragins will launch her new book, “If I’d Known Then — Women in Their 20s and 30s Write Letters to Their Younger Selves,” with a writing workshop for high school girls at 1 p.m. Saturday in TT Patton of Barrington, 123 E. Station St. The letters will then displayed at a reception at 6 p.m. in Francesca’s Famiglia, 100 E. Station St., across the street. Singer Elisabeth Withers will perform. Tickets for the reception cost $30, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit local charities. An open house with Spragins and Withers will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. in TT Patton. Seating is limited. *”The Music Man” will be staged by the Park District Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 3 p.m. Sundays through July 27 in Stevenson High School, 1 Stevenson Drive, Lincolnshire. Tickets cost $15 in advance at the Alcott Center, 530 Bernard Drive. Donations will be collected for Neighbors in Need 2008, a disaster relief campaign for Midwest flood victims. *A poker run to benefit Orphans of the Storm, a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter, will be held Saturday beginning at Chicago Harley-Davidson, 2929 Patriot Blvd. Registration will begin at 10 a.m., and the first bike will depart at noon. The poker run will end at Hanson Brothers Tavern, 1945 Willow Rd., Northbrook, where a pig roast, live music and a raffle will follow. The event is sponsored by the Ladies of Harley, Windy City HOG Chapter 2053. The cost is $20 per rider and $10 per passenger. Children ages 10 and younger are free. *The annual Communi-Tee golf outing and Million Dollar Shoot-Out hosted by the Friends of HE Parks will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 29 at Poplar Creek Country Club, 1400 Poplar Creek Drive.
